The Scientific Citizenship Initiative (SCi) is excited to announce an opportunity to help shape the future of equitable, science-informed policymaking in Massachusetts. Nominations are now open for the Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Science and Technology Policy Fellowship (MASTPF), a groundbreaking program designed to embed scientific expertise into the legislative process to address the Commonwealth’s most pressing challenges.
At SCi, we are dedicated to advancing a civic science movement that empowers scientists to work in partnership with society, co-creating solutions that are equitable, impactful, and just. With support from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), the development of the MASTPF is a critical step in achieving this mission. The program will provide a unique opportunity for scientists to serve the public through a year-long fellowship in the Massachusetts State House, advancing policies that reflect the needs and values of the Commonwealth’s diverse communities.
The Advisory Board will play a pivotal role in the development and success of this transformative initiative. Members will provide strategic guidance, foster connections between science and society, and help ensure the program’s long-term sustainability and impact. SCi is seeking diverse leaders with expertise in areas such as fundraising, organizational capacity building, communications, stakeholder engagement, and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI).
“The MASTPF has the potential to transform lives across the Commonwealth by creating evidence-based policies that reflect the needs and values of our diverse communities,” said Dr. Dan Pomeroy, co-founder and co-director of SCi. “As a physicist whose own career was profoundly shaped by the opportunity to serve as a policy advisor in the U.S. Congress, through the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship Program, I am deeply committed to creating similar pathways for scientists who want to use their expertise to serve the public and address societal challenges.”
Nominations can be submitted online until February 14, 2025. To nominate yourself or a colleague, please visit our nomination form. For more information about the MASTPF and the Advisory Board’s role, visit MASTPF program page or Advisory Board overview.
